LIBERAL AND CREATIVE ARTS BUILDING

The San Francisco State University Liberal and Creative Arts (LCA) Building is currently under construction and will be the new home for the Broadcast & Electronic Communication Arts Department (BECA). A state of the art, 75,000 square-foot media production and classroom facility, the new building will ensure that SF State and our graduates remain at the forefront of technological innovation and leadership.

The teaching, research, and production complex, designed by award-winning architect Mark Cavagnero, will be a LEED Gold- certified four story structure encompassing 75,000 square feet.

The Bay Area is a world leader for media and media arts as well a national center for technological advancement and cutting-edge research. San Francisco State is currently ranked the third most prominent source of employees for the Bay Area’s technology industry.

 

Campus Master Plan

The new LCA Building is a prominent feature of San Francisco State University’s Campus Master Plan. In addition to this new and enhanced academic facility, the plan will provide dramatically increased student housing and campus-wide environmental initiatives. A new residential complex will be built concurrently with the LCA Building, adding more than 500 beds to campus student housing.

What's in the new LCA Building?

Professional TV Newsroom

Our news room will resemble high-profile studios in New York City and Los Angeles. Students walking to their classes will view the news desk through windows, as they do on major network newscasts.

KSFS Radio Station and Classroom

A Low Power FM broadcast radio station with live streaming will be fully staffed and run by SF State students, providing innovative programming to the campus and surrounding area.

Media Presentation Room

A 130-seat space is designed for maximum flexibility for video production, lecture presentations, break-out sessions, group discussions, and distance-learning between the Lake Merced and downtown campuses.

Audio Recording Studio

This cutting-edge facility will enable faculty to train students in surroundsound mixing capabilities in Dolby, DTS, and SDDS industry-wide formats. It will also foster cross-disciplinary collaborations between students and faculty.
